When the Homeopathic consultation starts, the medical homeopathic doctor first collects background information. Then details of the condition that is giving problems is taken, probably in more detail than you might expect!

Questions that may be asked in a homeopathic consultation may initially include:
what does the pain feel like, when is it worse, does the weather make any difference, and so on.

The start of the illness and its progression is important, and so is anything that could have brought it on, for instance, grief and bereavement, illness vaccination and so on.

Past illness and current medication history is gathered, followed by a brief outline of your current state of health system by system: digestive, cardiovascular, respiritory, urinary and reproductive functions, and finally the nervous system.

The history will then turn to psychological well-being - particularly noting fears, attitudes and prefernces. Your homeopathic doctor will be keen to know what makes you tick, what you are passionate about and the nature of the relationships with those close to you.

All this information often takes an hour or more. For further information on this aspect of case-taking, please click here

When this is done, the homeopathic doctor may have a good idea what homeopathic remedy is appropriate; if it is available from stock, your homeopathic doctor may dispense it to you there and then. If not then he will send off to a homeopathic pharmacy, such as Freemans, (click here to visit their site) and order it especially for you.

Your homeopathic doctor will call you back between 4-6 weeks later and assess how well you have done on that homeopathic remedy. Prior to this consultation he will spend several hours working on the case with the aid of the computer (Dr Thomson uses a homeopathic software program from Miccant.) This will either confirm the remedy as being the correct and effective one, or suggest other lesser well known remedies. There are approximately 3000 remedies available!

It may take several consultations before the correct remedy is found. Dr Thomson is prepared to stick with case until it is found! Rarely, however, it may become clear that this case does respond to homeopathy, and Dr Thomson will suggest that homeopathy may not be the appropriate therapy. However follow-up will never be abandoned without the agreement of the patient concerned.

The consultation shares the traditional confidential privelidge of all medical consultations, and no details are released without the consent of the patient involved. Doctors have a long history of ethics, illustrated in the Hippocratic Oath, a translation of which can be found here.
